I have been running for the last 6 months wanting to complete a half marathon, but lacking the motivation. Since moving to Valencia I have discovered beer, sangria and tapas as well as learning about an NGO that has become very important to me: so now there are no excuses!
Second Tree is an NGO that has inspired me: they are the only providers of educational activities for the refugee community of Epirus, Northern Greece and their message, ‘Refugees are People’, is one of value. I will be working towards completing a half marathon by June 20th and will keep everyone updated on my progress.
Second Tree is the only educational NGO that works with the refugee community in Epirus, Northern Greece. They provide non-formal educational activities for children aged 8-15 in the shape of: English language learning classes, interactive workshops and excursions into the local life. Second Tree are the only providers of English classes for adults in the region – the skills learned in these classes are an essential component of refugee integration.
My sister, Juliette, is currently an English teacher with Second Tree and through her I have learned of the unique approach Second Tree takes within the community. Their message, ‘Refugees are People’, has made me realise the prejudices that can sometimes exist within the humanitarian world that should be questioned.
